Richard "Rick" Gene Baker

Richard Gene Baker, 72 of Apex, entered into his heavenly home on October 14, 2023.

Rick was born on January 13, 1951 in Monroe, NC to the late William Gene Baker and Elizabeth Ailene Byrum Baker. Rick was an avid outdoorsman whose first love was fishing and took pleasure in watching sports of all kinds. He spent many Saturdays at the lake with his sons, and after retirement, found enjoyment doing the same with his grandchildren. He also looked forward to vacations with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was a dedicated worker who spent his career in finance, before retiring in 2020 from Texmac Inc. in Charlotte, NC. After retirement, Rick moved with his wife Cathy to Apex, NC to be closer to his grandchildren. Rick and Cathy’s favorite place to get away was Blowing Rock, NC and they went there as often as possible. They enjoyed spending time together there, exploring the town and nature.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Cathy Garrison Baker; sons, Matthew Baker (wife Stephanie) and Tyler Baker (wife Karina); grandchildren, Aubrey Baker and Ethan Baker; brothers, Doug Baker (wife Debbie), Dennis Baker (wife Sandi), Jeff Baker (wife Audrey) and many nephews and nieces. Rick always had a smile and was loved by everyone that knew him. His biggest fan was his pup Murphy, who adored him above all else.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 28th at McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill, NC. Visitation will begin at 1:00 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 in the Chapel at McEwen Funeral Home. Burial will be done at a later time.
