Patrick J. Carr, previously of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on Sep 14th, surrounded by his loved ones at home in Apex, NC. He was born April 3, 1936 in Binghamton to Mary O'Boyle Carr and James Carr. He graduated high school from St Patrick's Academy in 1956 and afterwards, served in the US Navy reserves. He remained in Binghamton, where he met the love of his life Maureen "Mickie" Quain, and they married at St Paul's Catholic church in April 1963. They were parishioners there for many years.
He and Mickie were ecstatic to welcome their daughter, Marie. He was a constant form of support, wisdom and guidance and they never missed any of her three seasons' of sporting events; on one occasion even driving 40 minutes in snow to watch a tennis match. They were long time active parishioners of St Andrew's Catholic Church while living in the Town of Binghamton.
Early on, he worked with his father-in-law Maurice Quain and later, co-own Triple Cities Typesetting. He made printing a lifelong trade and later joined JC Publishing in Binghamton from which he retired, having been affectionately known as "Scooter" by his coworkers.
In 2009, he mourned the sudden loss of his wife during their transition to North Carolina to live near their daughter. It’s there he took on his most treasured role of "Grandpa" to granddaughter, Gabi, who meant the world to him. While he loved reading on the porch, he was always good for a board or card game, some funny conversation, and looked forward to driving her to school every day. He also enjoyed spending time and watching sports with his son-in-law, Walt Parker.
He will be remembered for his kindness. Everybody loved Pat! Despite having battled inflammatory arthritis his whole life, he rarely complained and was always "fine" when asked by his medical providers and family members alike. He was a devoted husband, supportive father, cherished Godfather, New York Yankees fanatic, and a favorite uncle but, "Don't let him play with your toys. He'll break them!". His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-laws James Carr (Florence) and Fred Carr (Barbara). He is survived by daughter Marie Carr and son-in-law Walton Parker, III; sister and brother in law Eileen Coughlin (Richard), brother Corky Carr (Dorothy); granddaughter Gabrielle Carr; step grandchildren Alexa and Davis Parker; and multiple nieces, nephews and great-niece and nephews.
A mass & remembrance ceremony will be held on Friday, October 13th at 10:45AM at St Andrew the Apostle Catholic church in Apex, NC. A mass will be said at St. Patrick's Church in Binghamton, date to be determined for June of 2024. Please add any special comments or photos you'd like to share below under "Add a Memory", or with dtr Marie. They will be shared at his ceremony and kept in an associated memory book. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial tree via Arbor Day Foundation, Living Tribute or alternatively, donating to your local Miracle League to honor his love of Yankees baseball.
