Lola was born on December 9, 1928, in Bunn Level, NC to Gus and Hettie (Byrd) Coleman. She married the love of her life, Stanley Ray Johnson, Jr. on February 2, 1949. They were blessed with two sons, Stanley Ray (Stan) Johnson III and Timothy (Tim) Coleman Johnson.
Lola enjoyed life to the fullest and was always showing the world that her beauty was not only visible through her outward appearance but also radiated from her generous heart. She enjoyed entertaining, meeting new people, and talking to others. She had a gift for making people feel special and she never met a stranger. She was a sweet soul who always had a kind word for everyone. She loved to listen to music, dance and spend time on her back porch with a cup of coffee while enjoying the beauty of God’s handiwork, which included her favorite plants, red and white impatiens. She was meticulous about her yard and at any time, it could have appeared on the cover of a Southern Living magazine. She loved to create needlework masterpieces through her talents of knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Her treasures have been passed down to her children and grandchildren and are prominently displayed at her favorite time of the year, Christmas. She also carried on the family love for antiques and was able to appreciate the beauty easily overlooked by others; she cherished each heirloom just as she did her loved ones. She enjoyed the fine art of canning vegetables and was known as a “canning master.” She passed those skills down to her daughters-in-law, yet no one could make a better school-girl pickle than Nana.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, son Stan, a brother, Robert Coleman, and four sisters Winifred Gates, Alice Newton, Lena Stephens, and Letty Tew. She is survived by her devoted son, Tim and his wife, Janet, daughter-in-law, Florence Johnson, grandchildren, Anna McDougald (Andrew), Josh Johnson, Perry McDougald (Dana), Ethan Johnson (Laini) and Katie Johnson; great grandchildren, Bryson Teeter, Dakota and Olivia Wilson, Emery McDougald and Orli Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends and guests from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 with a funeral service to be held at 11:00 AM and a burial to follow at Olive Chapel Baptist Church in Apex, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Olive Chapel Baptist Church or the charity of your choice in her honor.
