Mrs. Sinders was a wonderful educator and person. Although I only knew her for 6 months, the impact she made on our family at Lufkin was such an amazing experience.  This photo represents the first day my son met her. She was right there with him from day one showing him love and understanding. She also had to lay out some rules as he sped through the hallways. We will dearly miss her warm smile and support!

You use to work for my dad, Mr. Barabasz+ you were a great principal of mine for 3 years, I remember the first time I met you and you asked me to give you a hug and I was too shy, but eventually gave you a hug, I'm glad I did :) you watched me grow from a tiny 6th grader to a bright hardworking ready-for-high school 8th grader, I'm now a junior at the school at my dream high school (the one you encouraged me to apply to) I couldn't of done middle school with you,  and i never had the chance to thank you for that due to covid, so thank you so much, lots of love to you and your family, fly high :) 

I’m so sorry for your loss… She was such an amazing person. A beacon of hope for so many kids . She always saw the best in people but didn’t take any crap. I can not imagine what your family is going thru. I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there for you . I pray that the family will find peace during this difficult time.  We will keep you in our prayers always… 

I think about Karen in many environments.  I saw her through the years because our children were in school together.  She was a very supportive mother when A.J. was in my 4th grade class.  When she came back to North Carolina, we talked about school where she might apply for jobs.  She was always kind, fun, and full of energy.  I am so sorry that she felt us so soon.  I will pray for her family as they navigate these difficult days.

Mrs. Sinders started at Lufkin the same year I did. She supported me as the Family and Consumer Science teacher, and celebrated with me when I retired at Christmas 2016. After 5 years in retirement she offered me the part-time job as Career Development Coordinator at Lufkin, and I gladly accepted. She always advocated for the students, and supported my work as an educator. I respected her and was very fond of her. I will miss her very much personally and professionally. I will be praying for her loved ones in the coming months. Godspeed.

Karen showed up to support my son in the recent ‘Are you smarter than an Apex student’ event and cheered loudly as a proud principal! ❤️
She will be deeply missed. Sending peace to her family. 

The first time I met Karen was when I was called to the principal’s office at Lufkin. My son had gotten in trouble.  Of course, I wasn’t happy to have to go to the principals office to pick my son the cell phone up, but he gave me a chance to meet this amazing woman. 

Later we would serve on the APSF board together where I witnessed her devotion to her school, the teachers and staff that she was in charge of. She was always positive, always had good things to say about her school and her teachers, and we’re always share with a smile on her face. 

Karen was an amazing woman and she will be missed by. Her legacy is going to remain deeply rooted in this community. 

At school, we teachers could always tell when Karen was coming down the hallway, by hearing the click, click, click of her heels - so much so, that we'd always be surprised on those days that she wore sneakers.  There she'd be, with no warning...!

We will certainly miss hearing the click of those heels, and that great big smile!

Our prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time - we're so, so sorry for your loss.

My Deepest Sympothy

My family prays that God grants you all confort in your time of sorrow and strength going forward.  Karen Sinders loved her family, friends, students and staff.  And as part of her staff I will always remember her kindness and always made me feel special part of her work family.

I can't express how grateful I am to you for letting me be on the Lufkin staff. The past few years were tough, and I came into YR a little worse for wear. What a wonderful feeling to have my experience appreciated, my voice and concerns heard & an ear to express them to. What a blessing it is to be here and end my career with a positive note. You are the kind, fair and supportive leader that I have been needing!

After the "intervention" staff meeting (which I did not attend) there were comments that you were not actively responding to the arguments and did not intervene. I was surprised you did not let your voice be heard in that situation. I wanted staff to know the Karen Sinders that I know - that your heart is in the right place and support/action is your leadership style. The true you was out in the carpool helping and directing, out in the field during events - raising your voice to help, lead and support.
I thought of something that would boost your presence and placed it in your office. Weeks passed, & that box finally was opened! I saw and heard evidence of your voice reaching out to everyone and it made me feel like I have truly thanked you for being such a wonderful principal.

The pink microphone really did fit your style and I'm sure it will be a Lufkin legacy of you. Your voice was loud & clear and we listened.

Gregg and family - My deepest sympathy for your loss. I hope the memories of Karen and your time together - the laughter, the family gatherings, vacations, and the little moments that make a family - bring you some peace in this difficult time. May you be held in comfort and God's love. 

While I never had the honor and blessing of actually meeting Karen, I know she was an incredible woman with a powerful, loving and generous spirit. I know this because I have had the honor and blessing of working with, and becoming close friends, with her husband, Gregg, who couldn’t have done what he does without her standing right beside and behind him. May God hold Karen close for eternity, and shower His peace upon the whole family. 🙏❤️

Throughout the many years Karen was Lufkin’s principal, she always made sure to hold high expectations for staff and keep the students best interests at heart. She was fully invested in our school and she will be missed by many!

I first met Karen shortly after she became principal at LRMS and I was assigned to be her mentor as a year round school principal at Salem Middle. From that time on , we became the closest of friends. When I moved to Apex Middle, our schools competed against each other academically and on the sports field and  court . We spiced up the rivalry by wearing our rivals spirit wear if we lost the game between our schools. She was such an advocate for LRMS and her proudest moment was finally getting a gym on campus so she could create more school spirit! We shared a love for college basketball, her for her Xavier Musketeers and I for my NC State Wolfpack! May she rest in peace in her eternal reward!
