A Celebration of Life will be held on May 16, 2019 at 1 pm at the Apex Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
Julia Byrd was born August 4, 1937, in La Crosse, VA to Henry Kelley and Lillian Irene Hagwood. Julia married Harmon Byrd on March 22, 1959 in Raleigh, NC and they were married for 59 years until Harmon passed away in 2016. Julia and Harmon lived in Cary, NC for 36 years and were avid North Carolina State Fans.
Julia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her 4 daughters, her 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Miss Julia was a preschool teacher for 30 years and loved by many children in Cary NC.
In addition to being a wonderful wife and mom, she loved gardening; was an incredible cook; a wonderful hostess; and loved the beach. Her kitchen table was always open and quickly full of food for anyone who needed a place to sit and talk.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Harmon Byrd and her siblings: Derle Hagwood, June Smith, Ray Hagwood, and Henry Bryant Hagwood.
Julia is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Leesa and Dave Northrup, Suzanne and Larry Coats, Wendy and Bill Stephens and Nicole and Alex White. Julia is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: David, Jimmy, Kelly, & Daniel Northrup; Meghan Dologalski; Courtney Guadagno; Bethany Coats; Hunter & Conner Stephens; Carson, Chad, Skylar & Levi Miller; Cameron, Charlie, and Katie White and their respective spouses. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Trig, Mace, Coleman, Rhodes, Lyla, Owen, Rhett, Oliver, and Myles. She is survived by her sisters: Ellen Poe and Linda Hagwood, and her brother: James Hagwood.
