Jim R. Lanahan, 75, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014. He was born on May 2, 1939 in Queens, NY and lived in NJ where he owned the Gas Light Inn, Montville, NJ and also worked at Konner Chevrolet before retiring to Cary, NC.
Jim will be remembered for his ultimate optimism and enthusiasm for life. His family’s and friends’ memories will be snapshots of generosity, kindness, wit and humor. He had an extraordinary love for and pride in his family. Jim had a unique ability to make every person feel as though they were the most important, special person he knew. The world would be a happier place if there were more people like him.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara Lee Lanahan; children: Barbara Jean Lanahan, Richard (Susan) Lanahan, James John (Christina) Lanahan, and Tara Lynn (Bruno) D’Uva; brothers: Robert (Judy) Lanahan, Tom (Peg) Lanahan; sisters: Dee (Richard) Aloia, and Pegeen (Luciano) Lizzi. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Connor and Kellen Lanahan, Bruno James and Brayden D’Uva, and Scarlett Lanahan; and his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Friday, August 1, 2014 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Apex Funeral Home.
