James Michael "Mike" Owens, 57, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on January 27, 2016 while working a job in Dickson, Tennessee. Born on July 24, 1958 in Bladen County, NC; he was the son of the late Kerley Willoughby and Carolyn Babson Willoughby.
Mike owned and operator his family business – Midstate Plant Services. He was a larger than life character, known to many as “Cowboy” and “friend” to all. He wore his heart on his sleeve and always told you exactly what he was thinking. He was known to say that he’d rather burn out than fade away and he was a man of his word.
He is survived by his four children, son: Michael A. Jipson and his mother, Elizabeth Rothenberger; sons: Michael A. Owens and James A. Owens; and daughter: Amanda C. Owens (and husband Billy Price) and by their mother: Lisa C. Owens. He was the proud grandfather to three grandsons and three granddaughters. He is also survived by his “Seesters” Gloria Dilley, Rosa Anders, Karen Modlin and brother Kerley Joe Willoughby.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kerley and Carolyn Willoughby and brother Daniel T. Owens.
A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 3 PM at Apex Funeral Home (550 W Williams Street), with family receiving friends following the service.
