Helen was born on August 27, 1942 in Palmerton, PA to the late John and Helen Behun Sobota. Helen was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Raleigh. She loved spending time with her family, cooking and baking for all, especially during holidays, time spent at the beach, reading, and enjoying the company of her beloved dogs.
Helen worked as a high school business teacher for 20 years at Union Springs Central School District in Union Springs, NY. She later kept busy as a full-time receptionist and bookkeeper for St. Hyacinth Church in Auburn, NY until her retirement and move to North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, John J. Sobota, Jr. and brother-in-law James E. Tolomay.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 50 years, Lawrence Tolomay, son Daniel (Kimberly) Tolomay of Durham, NC, daughter Elizabeth “Betsey” (Jeffrey) Meyer of Graham, NC, grandsons Bryce Meyer, Luca Meyer, Andrew Tolomay, Henry Tolomay and Leo Tolomay, and granddaughters Mia Barbetta and Marisa Meyer. In addition, Helen is survived by her sisters-in-law Diane Tolomay of North Bend, PA and Susan Dauer of Salem, OR, as well as several cousins.
Family will receive friends and guests prior to mass on Monday, July 8th, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM with Mass immediately following at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Durham, NC. She will be laid to rest at Wake Memorial Park, Cary, NC.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be donated to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
