Eva May Hylton passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 96 on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at Carver Rehabilitation & Living Center in Durham, NC. Eva, affectionately known as "Nanny" was born on November 23rd, 1927 to William Bailey and Elizabeth Goffe Bailey in Prisman River, Portland, Jamaica West Indies.
Eva migrated from Jamaica to the United States in 1966 and initially lived in Michigan before making Hackensack, New Jersey, her home for many years. She was a devoted member of Varick Memorial AME Zion Church in Hackensack New Jersey. She also dedicated herself to her work at Fabergé and Shulton cosmetics in manufacturing until her retirement. After retiring, she found joy in providing nurturing care as a nanny to families in the area.
Eva is survived by her 5 children, Marvia Williams, Margaret Dyer, Beverly Lucas, Bernadette Esposito, and Donovan Wilson. Sons-in-law Winston Williams, Clarence Dyer, and Michael Esposito and daughter-in-law Audrey Wilson. She is also survived by her grandchildren Racquel Lopez and her husband Victor Lopez, Warren Williams, Tasha Hoyte, Felicia Dyer Johnson, Tiffeny Wilson, Janelle Neely, Ashley Wilson, and Denzel Wilson, as well as great-grandchildren Naomi Lopez and Leah Lopez, nephews Andrew Bailey and Carlton Maragh, grandnieces Chantel Maragh and Senel Maragh, grandnephews Andrew Maragh, and Stephen Maragh and many other loving family members and friends.
Eva is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Hylton, siblings Marie Maragh, Edward Bailey, Adanelle Bailey, and Ashton Bailey.
Eva cherished spending time with her family and enjoying moments of laughter with friends. She touched the lives of many with her infectious smile, boundless generosity, and unwavering sense of humor, which she maintained until the very end.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have honored her life and celebrated the legacy of this remarkable woman, a beloved mother, and cherished friend.
Please join us celebrating her life Monday, April 29, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Apex Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow at Wake Memorial Park.
