Eugene William Jacobs

Eugene (Gene) William Jacobs, 90, of Pinehurst, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30,2023. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Emily (Shoemaker) Jacobs his parents, Eugene Wesley and Rena Jacobs, brother, Robert Jacobs, sister Doris Kerns, brother in-law Edward Kerns and his grandson, Michael Grzenda.

Gene was born on March 13,1933 in Warrenton, Virginia. He grew up in Indian Hill, Ohio attended Madeira High School (Class of 1950), Wilmington College, University of Cincinnati and Salmon P Chase College School of Law. He was a Vice-President of Trust division of US Bank until his retirement in 1992. Gene was an avid golfer and helped to establish O’Bannon Creek Golf Club. He was able to enjoy golfing with his wife until the age of 87 years old. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army 1954 to 1956.

He met his loving wife, Mary (Shoemaker) Jacobs at Wilmington College. They were married for 68 years. They resided in Cincinnati, Ohio, Loveland, Ohio and then retired to Pinehurst, NC. They were faithful members of Yates-Thagard Baptist Church.

Gene is survived by his children, Joni (Richard) Grzenda, Judy (Robert) Williams, Dr. Gary (Cindy) Jacobs, Dr. James (Kimberly) Jacobs; his brother, Ronald (Carla) Jacobs; sister-in-law, Rosemary Jacobs; grandchildren, Jacob (Becky) Grzenda, Emilee (Brad) Holtgraver, Sara (Daniel) Bryant, Dr. Amy (Jason) Harper, Steven Jacobs (Jade Naro), Elisa (Drew) Hester, Ashley (Jon) Payne, Daniel (Corinne) Jacobs, Isaac Jacobs, and Josiah Jacobs; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild expected in September.

Family will receive friends and guests on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Yates Thagard Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. A graveside service with military honors will be held immediately after the funeral services at Yates Thagard Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be donated to Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, 3820 Vass-Carthage Rd, Carthage, NC 28327.
