Constance Cox Work

Connie was born in Georgetown, SC on November 24, 1940. She and her family moved to Florida where she lived much of her life. She met and married her husband, Gene Work, in 1964. They had one daughter, Catherine. Connie worked for Southern Bell/AT&T for 32 years. She had numerous positions with the company, but there are two things everyone needs to remember. First, she could sell anything to anyone. Remember AT&T Phone Stores? Also, no one can recall how many times Catherine went to Girl Scout Camp for free – Connie was literally a cookie queen! Second, when she was a CWA Union Steward, she never lost a grievance. She was one of the most persuasive and persistent people you could have ever known.

In 1989, she and Gene moved to Colorado. They spent time in Aurora until Connie’s retirement from AT&T in 1992. They then moved to Estes Park where she loved to plant flowers – which the elk and deer promptly ate. She called it her “buffet!” Gene predeceased her in 2002.

When Catherine and her family moved to North Carolina, Connie followed them in 2003. She couldn’t resist being close to her grandchildren. If you knew Connie at all, you know how proud she was of Josh and Sarah and they are very fortunate to have had her so close.

She initially lived in Fuquay-Varina, moving to Apex in 2015. Connie was a member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church for many years and when she moved to Apex, she became active at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. The pandemic impacted her ability to attend services, and she greatly missed her church community.

She is loved and remembered by her daughter, Catherine Katz, her son-in-law, Joe, and her grandchildren, Josh and Sarah, and all of Cary.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Apex Funeral Home 550 W Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends at a reception after the service. A private family inurnment will follow at Wake Memorial Park in Cary.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Reserve at Mills Farm and Amedisys Hospice for the love and compassionate care given to Connie.
