Wendy, I was so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. I’m one of the lucky ones because I knew him as a landscape architect and through playing volleyball together (he was Cam to me back then). It wasn’t until later, too late really, that I realized we had much more in common through our brotherhood in Christ Jesus. I didn’t know until this week that I have been attending the same church as Sallye and that she was Charlie’s sister. Too many memories to share but I really want to say I always thought, from the outside looking in, that you guys had such a great relationship and no matter what he was going through in the end (and he endured more than most of us will ever have to), he was very fortunate to have you as his wife and partner in life. We should all be that fortunate. Please know that you and the family are in our prayers during this time.

I know Wendy mostly from art functions. But my husband and I also participated in social dances and enjoyed watching Charlie and Wendy “west coast”. That they were graceful and loving partners was evident in their every movement. It is our favorite memory of Charlie.

I am so sorry to learn of Cam's death. He was such a super steady person.  In the early days of men's club volleyball, there were certainly some intense rivalries (some internal and some external!).  My view of Cam was that he was the glue that held a team together despite all the distractions.  He was appropriately focused, but also an even keel for those who weren't.  I don't doubt that his personal life was similar.

I offer my sympathy and condolences to the family of Charlie/Cam. I knew him as “Cam” when we were pre-schoolers living in the Country Club Homes Apartments in Raleigh. The name “Musser” always reminded me of “mustard” and since I’ve never known any other Mussers, I wondered if this was the person who was my playmate many years ago. I’d never have recognized him from his adult photos but when I scrolled through all the photos and saw him as a young child, I recognized him immediately. The photo with his dad appears to have been taken at the apartments. Although I too was at NC State (BA 72), I doubt we’d have crossed paths there. I’m sorry to learn that he suffered from Parkinson’s. Best wishes to all Cam’s family and friends.

Charlie was a wonderful man. I feel lucky to have known him. I always enjoyed being on the same court with him. He was always hard working and positive. Rest In Peace my friend. 

While we’ve only known Charlie a few years, we believe it has been a great privilege to have been in his company at Rock Steady Boxing. These few years have shown a steady decline in his physical abilities as we saw him go from a tall heavy-hitter on the bag through the days with the walker to the last days in the wheelchair. However, through it all there was no decline in his steady  smile and sparkling eyes.  He has been an inspiration to us.

I first got tp know Cam as a fellow denizen of the notorious 2320 Clark Ave. apartments which rented for a whopping $67.50 per month in 1970. It was kind of awful but wonderful at the same time since it was a big improvement over dorm living at NCSU. Over time it seemed to evolve into a fraternity/sorority for discriminating students on very limited budgets. Discretion forbids me from sharing any incriminating details.  We had lots of fun both there and on various adventures. 

 Life took all of us in different directions after NCSU and we lost touch. I'm glad to see that Cam had a rich and full professional and social life. There is a full legacy of people who have lost a good friend at age 69 which is way too damn soon. 

I know the impact of Parkinsons personally since it struck my father in his late 30s and claimed him at age 53.  In a future time let us hope it is no longer a thing.

We attended church with Charlie and Wendy for years. My favorite memory is of watching them dance.  They  flowed across the dance floor. Charlie and Wendy showed such love  and devotion toward one another. They respected each other’s work and gifts. They were a real team!  They served our church family faithfully together with joy in all they did.  They battled Parkinson’s together.  Their marriage was a real picture of Christ and His church. You can’t talk about one of them without the other. Charlie will be missed by all who knew him. Wendy will be surrounded by a loving family and a great community who love her.  Our prayers are with you, Wendy. 

Wendy, Frances, Sallye and Anne, I am so sorry for your loss.  Cam was a good person and he will be missed.  Today, I attended Cam’s service on FB Live and it was such a wonderful celebration for the man and his life.  You are all in my prayers.  Much love to you all.

Thank you for posting these wonderful photos that help tell the story of Charlie and Wendy!

Over the past 3 years I have become involved with a wonderful group of people, who like me, are fighting back against Parkinson's Disease. Charlie fought the good fight and it was an honor to walk this road with him and Wendy.
Charlie, you are my friend, a fellow Rock Steady boxer, a support group member, and a brother in Christ, and you will be missed by myself and  many more.
I am thankful for the opportunity to know Charlie and his wonderful wife Wendy and my wife Amy and I are remembering Wendy and the entire family in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
I am reminded of Jesus' words "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life" and "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies..." (John 3:16, John 11:25-26)
Charlie is now with his God and Savior awaiting the resurrection and for the Lord to make all things new and we will be in His presence for all of eternity with new bodies, on the new earth with the new heavens (Revelation chapters 21 & 22).

Charlie (CAM) is my friend, teammate and brother. Always will be!
A gentle man and fiercest competitor who respected anyone that loved the game of volleyball. If you were lucky enough to be his teammate, you had a special place in his heart! When describing CAM words such as tall (obviously), big smile, wit and charisma were his usual monikers.
However, if you were lucky enough to see CAM and Wendy together you witnessed love as God had designed. 
I will miss the big man, but I know he is no longer trapped  in a vessel, his spirit is free again.

So sorry to hear the news and condolences to the Musser family.  I knew CAM through volleyball always playing against him whether it was in at JC Park which he helped design the outdoor courts I think, indoor Raleigh leagues or numerous other tournaments like Hi Neighbor.  What a gentle giant he was and was always smiling as he crushed spike after spike past me.  I will miss him for all the volleyball memories but more importantly how he carried himself as a great individual with Wendy always at his side.  Will miss you CAM!  

Rock Steady has become such an important part of our lives.  It was there that we met Charlie and Wendy.  Seeing and being around Charlie was always such an inspiration to all of us struggling with the disease.  His determination and will to keep fighting was unrelenting to the end.  We will always remember his bright smile and love that he showed to Wendy and all around him.  Wendy’s love and devotion to him was always so apparent and gives all of us something to strive for.  Rock Steady will never be the same!

Our hearts are with the Musser family.   It  is always a  privilege to meet someone  whose goodness is felt  by those around him and  Charlie was certainly one of those people.  I never saw Charlie without a smile on his face.   Watching the video tribute to Charlie was a joy  to see........ beautiful snapshots  filled with the love of family and friends.    Charlie will be missed but  never forgotten by those fortunate enough to have made his acquaintance.  Our sincerest condolences to  Wendy  who always displays   strength and grace for us all to emulate,  and to  all the Musser family.

     I am one of Cam’s volleyball teammates and friends. In volleyball you didn’t have to be Cam’s teammate to be his friend.

I knew Charlie, although he was always Cam to me, through volleyball. I played against him mostly, occasionally on the same team. For some reason he was always taller than me, go figure. We worked together in the Carolina Region. Cam was always willing to take on whatever job needed doing. The biggest one was as equipment manager when we hosted the 1990 USVBA Adult Open Championships. At NC State. His job was to get all the courts in the three different facilities we were using ready for play throughout the 6 days of the event. Enormous effort and he handled it with ease. He managed his team of volunteers with skill and humor. I never met anyone who had a negative word about him. Nice guy. That’s all you heard. Throw in Wendy and it was just “great couple”. There’s a big hole in the NC volleyball landscape. There’s a big hole in my life.  I’ll miss you big guy. The attached photo is of an age group team mostly from Raleigh that went to a National tournament. Guess which one is Cam. The rest shall remain unidentified to protect the innocent.

I am so sorry for your loss. Charlie was such a great person. We met at Lions Park in 73 or 4 playing volleyball. Cam was fun to be around and very forgiving of my setting.

We didn’t see each other much over the past years, but I always appreciate the two of you coming to my retirement party.

I have known Cam since about 1977.   It was on the volleyball court when as a UNC club player I first met him.  His crosscourt spike was too tough to handle.  Who is this Wolfpack seven-foot giant?  Thankfully, we became teammates on the Triangle club team in the early 1980s.  He used to drive this beat-up Peugeot, cloth coverings over the front seats.  Dirt everywhere.  On our drives from Raleigh to Duke Cameron Indoor for practice, Charlie (I started calling him Charlie) would describe his battles as a Wake County landscape inspector with developers who couldn't care less about sediment runoff.  He absolutely reveled in sticking it to them.  He was tough as nails.  Our team toured Florida on one spring break trip.  Oh the stories.  We went to the Nationals in Memphis and Long Island.  We went to Miami for the Caribbean Invitational. I wrote a story about that trip in the Triangle Spectator Weekly, and the article featured Cam, a photo of him spiking, captioned "The Big Hammer."   Wendy came into his life in those years.  So glad they found each other.  Cam designed the beach volleyball courts at Jaycee Park.  He was always there, playing hard, yelling loud when crushing balls crosscourt.  He loved playing in the outdoor "Raleigh Hard" tournament in the winter.  He was tournament director of the Nationals in Raleigh in 1990. Logistical nightmare.  He was perfect for the job, no nonsense, got it under control.  Fast forward.  We visited in the mid-2000s and mid-2010s.  Friendship was always deep.  One visit to his Sungate headquarters we had a nice quiet chat outside, sharing memories of the good ol' days.  He was beginning to show signs of Parkinsons.  I ached for him.  But he soldiered on, tough as nails.  Visions of him boxing, punching that bag, for therapy just amazed me at his grit.  He didn't deserve having to suffer through the sickness.  Wendy was his champion.  We will miss Cam immensely.  Such a fine man.  Godspeed, my friend.

It'a been almost 30 years since Jim and I met Charlie, aka Cam, and Wendy when we built homes on Parkspring Court. We so enjoyed getting to know them as neighbors, friends, and family in Christ. Charlie was friendly, funny, sincere, and eager to lend a hand. He literally crawled around our crawl space helping Jim with a project. 
They don't come any better than Charlie!

I remember all of the Fulghum cousins making homemade peach ice cream in Mema's backyard in the sweet summertime in Middlesex, NC. Cam, was the oldest and always the tallest of all of us cousins. I look up to him figuratively and as  light to follow.  His voice was always like Uncle Chuck's, soft and comforting. Prayers are being lifted for comfort to all who loved Cam. Love and continued prayers coming from your family down here in Texas.  Cam was my oldest cousin and so we looked up to him in many ways (in addition to physically!). I am so glad I was able to visit with him and the rest of my North Carolina family almost two years ago when we all celebrated Connie and George’s 50th wedding anniversary. Precious moments and memories made!  He leaves behind four very special and strong Musser women and I love you all- Wendy, Aunt Frances, Anne, and Sallye.
