Ellie was the second of three children born to J. Brenton and Mabel Stearns of New Jersey. She was born in 1936 during the depression and spent the formative years of her childhood during World War Two. She was a teenager during the late 40's- early 50's and went to college at Baldwin Wallace in Berea, Ohio. After graduating with a degree in education, she was a schoolteacher. She married Richard Loring in 1959 and a twenty-year marriage produced four wonderful children. Ellie entered the working world in her forties and spent most of her career working at Wake Internal Medicine where she was part of a great team of doctors and staff. After retirement, Ellie was able to spend her time doing things that she enjoyed such as traveling to the beach and gardening
Ellie was a steadfast Christian with an undying faith in Jesus Christ. She believed in the power of the Holy Spirit in her everyday life. Her faith flowed from her naturally, in her words and deeds. As she was able, she was a regular participant of services and events at Oaks Church in Cary.
She loved animals, particularly her dog, Rosie, who she frequently took to the dog park in Cary where she found a true community of friendship. She fed the animals that came to the back porch of her condo – birds, squirrels, rabbits, and even deer would come visit her.
An avid player of games, she enjoyed Dominos and Scrabble. Ellie also had the best laugh. It was often the goal of her children to make her laugh so hard that she would cackle and guffaw. She had a unique vocabulary and frequently used words such as "gorp" and "fiddle dee dee"
Ellie loved to watch golf on TV. She was a fan of NC State and was excited to see the Wolfpack basketball team make it to the Final Four this year.
She is survived by her children Ken Loring and his spouse Erica, Craig Loring and his spouse Donna, Ted Loring and his spouse Shelia, and Amy Leder and her spouse Rob. Her grandchildren are Kasey Loring, Nathan Loring, Sam Loring, Ashlyn Loring, Jimi Leder, Michael Loring, and Julia Leder.
She was preceded in death by her brother Brent and her sister Carolyn. She was the last of her siblings.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Apex Funeral Home Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 2 to 3 p.m. with services beginning at 3 p.m. The Rev. JD Hudson will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Ellie loved color and specifically requested that people attend the service wearing "happy colors".
