Andrew "Andy" Larry Clark

Andrew "Andy" Larry Clark, 69 years old, passed away peacefully on September 04, 2023, following a short illness, with family and dear friends at his side. He was a life-long Apex, NC native, born December 30, 1953, to Lewis and Corine Hipp Clark, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Trudy Clark Castlebury and niece, Tessa Castlebury, his Uncle Larry Hipp and Mildred Thomas Hipp and his Aunt Elma Hipp Hunt, and several cousins.

Andy started his adulthood driving dump trucks and then moved on to be a dispatcher for the State Highway Patrol. It was during this employment he became interested in striping parking lots as a part-time job. Finding his passion in striping in the 1980’s, he left the Highway Patrol and began striping full-time, eventually expanding into the NC roadways. In 1984, after a catastrophic work zone accident and rehabilitation, he sold his assets in 1987 to Allied Striping and became an employee of Allied for a short period, running their NC operations. In 1989, Andy’s passion returned, and he restarted Clark Pavement Marking, Inc. with a team of five employees. The Company continued to grow over the years, peaking to 100 employees. Clark Pavement Marking was Andy’s life, and his workforce was considered his extended family. Hardly ever a day that passed, that he wouldn’t ask, “my boys, okay?” He excelled at making Clark an employer of choice; working hard to always provide the safest and best equipment for his employees. Safety was the utmost importance to him. His goal was to always bring home “his boys” the same way he sent them out.

Andy was a huge advocate of roadway safety and was an initial member of the Carolinas ATSSA Chapter (American Traffic Safety Services Association), as well as a member of CAGC, CAPA, ARBTA, and the NC Truckers Association. He was also a huge private supporter of many charities throughout Wake County and North Carolina, but the Miracle League of the Triangle, Special Olympics, and the Central and Eastern North Carolina Food Bank were most important to him. He never wanted to leave a child hungry.

Throughout the years, Andy dabbled in numerous hobbies from Coca Cola memorabilia, jukeboxes (loved him some Elvis), classic cars, and even a Trike (motorcycle). During his lifetime, every day he woke up was considered a good day and every meal, a banquet. Christmas was his favorite holiday; his eyes would twinkle like a little boy talking about Santa. His large heart and giving soul will be remembered by all that knew him.

Family will receive friends and guests on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Salem Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow at Apex Cemetery.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be donated to the Central and Eastern NC Food Bank or Miracle League of the Triangle.
