David Ray Talley

A visitation at Chapel Hill for David will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service at Chapel Hill will occur Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM. A burial at Edgemont Cemetery will follow.

Pallbearers will be Erin Winton, Jason Holley, Brian Talley, Jeremiah Ashley, Austin Winton and Elysia Humphries.

Preceded in death by his Wife, Barbara Elaine Talley; Father, James Lewis Talley; Mother, Cora. Preceded in death by brothers, Homer, Theodore Lewis (Ted), Johnny Wayne; Sisters, Faye, Mary LeEtta, Lucille, Bettie Joyce, Linda Gail, and Thelma.

He is survived by his brothers, Jimmy and Randall Lewis; Children, Randall Lewis, Kimberly Ruth; Grandchildren, Erin Ray Winton and Marisa, Jason lee Holley and Ariel, Megan Elaine Kutsch, Brian Lewis Talley, Brianna Chrissy Ashley and Jeremiah; Great grandchildren, Austin Gage, Elysia Hayden, Rylie Rae, Waylon Cash, Carmen Marie, Ava Leigh, Julia Elaine, Welton Nash, Emmett Layne, Connor Blake, Colton Ray, Eulalie Maylene Ramble, and countless nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews

David was born in Anniston, Al on February 19, 1940 to James and Cora Talley. He had twelve brothers and sisters and even more great grandchildren. He served in the army for six years from 1957 to 1963. He married Barbara in 1961. They had Randall and Kim and he started working at the Anniston Army Depot in 1964 and retired with thirty five years under his belt. After his retirement, he worked with the county to improve our community watching inmates. He touched so many lives throughout his life and had many accomplishments and talents. In the summer time, he was on a dock at Logan Martin almost daily fishing his heart out, or he was at home pulling his grandkids on his lawnmower with a homemade trailer. He was a master carpenter and if you knew him, you’ve seen his work around his house or helped him build a home or a birdhouse or a porch or a pier. He kept a hammer and a saw in his hands. When David wasn’t fishing, he’d grow out his beard and ready his camper and spend weeks at a time in the woods with his grandsons and his nephews and all his hunting buddies’ running dogs. If you didn’t know him for all of that, then you knew him for his singing. He had a group with a few of his siblings and was also the song leader at his church, First Congregational Methodist Church, for many years where he was, also, an ordained deacon. But most importantly, we all knew him for how much he loved Jesus. That man didn’t just preach the gospel to every person he met, but he showed the Love of Jesus Christ through everything that he did or said.

He was loved by so many because he loved so many…. If he didn’t have a trail of hunting dogs or a fishing line ahead of him, he had a slough a children behind him… he’s been a father figure or brother to everyone around him. He spent his whole life trying to spread the love of God, not just the word, but showing people the true love of God. If you knew him, your heart was definitely touched by him. There are not enough words to stories to express how great David Ray Talley was. It took two days to write this obituary and it still doesn’t feel like I’ve said enough, but if you were blessed to be loved by him, then you already know.

“If no one’s told you they love you today, I love you, but the Lord loves you most of all.”
