Gene graduated from Saks High School in 1965, where he was an all-county basketball player. Gene was an employee of Flowers Baking Company for thirty-five years, where he was well-loved throughout the Calhoun County community and formed many lifelong friendships. Gene was an avid Auburn fan. He and Joy spent many Saturdays at Jordan Hare cheering on his Tigers. He loved all things baseball and was a huge Braves fan. Some of his greatest memories included coaching and playing baseball with his son, Brian. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life, and he would brag on them in any opening of a conversation. Christmas was Gene’s favorite time of year, and he made sure it was always special for his family. Gene had the kindest heart, the biggest smile, a heart for children, and loved Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
