Nowland Ed Edmundson Reynolds III

Nowland Edmundson Reynolds III Nowland ''Ed'' Reynolds has passed away at 94 years old after a brief illness. He was born in Washington, DC , the son of Nowland E. Reynolds II and Marguerite Walling Woodward. Ed, his parents, and brother and sister lived for a short time in Cottage City , MD before moving to a house on Arlington Avenue in Relay, MD. When the church next door wanted their land on which to build a church parking lot , they moved across the street and up a large hill to Beaumont, the family home owned by Ed's grandmother and once the summer home of his great grandfather, the artist, inventor, and first president of the Baltimore Art Institute David Acheson Woodward. Ed attended college at both Tufts University and Cornell University, achieving a Bachelor of Science degree. During WWII , Ed served in the United States Navy and later used his college degree to secure a job as a mechanical engineer at David Taylor Naval Research and Development Center in Annapolis, MD where he had the arduous task of trying new ways to make nuclear submarines silent underwater, and where he met Carolyn Bosley, a secretary nearly 15 years his junior. A workplace romance soon blossomed, and in 1966, Ed left Beaumont and moved to Annapolis to be nearer to work and to his beloved Carolyn. The two settled in the neighborhood of Pendennis, Mt overlooking the historic Naval Academy in Annapolis and spent their time raising their two children Valerie and David. During his long life Ed had many hobbies which included magic ( He was a huge fan of the late Harry Houdini ) , hypnosis, bowling , Egyptology, drawing, playing the piano and guitar, inventing new gadgets, traveling the world, crossword puzzles, watching baseball games, and gardening alongside Carolyn. After Carolyn passed from cancer in 2010, Ed continued to live in the Annapolis house by himself,and continued to take care of his pets. Ed enjoyed frequent visits from his son who would drive him on errands and take him to the Double T diner and to his favorite Chinese restaurant The Court of Shanghai where he would enjoy an occasional Mai Tai . Daughter Valerie would come up from her home in Florida twice a year and the three would go out as a family enjoying outings to the Zoo and Longwood Gardens . Ed was blessed with excellent health until recently being diagnosed with lymphoma, heart failure and renal failure. Ed was taken to the Anne Arundel Medical Center for more tests , during which his health continued to deteriorate rapidly. Ed was taken from AAMC to inpatient care with the good people of Hospice of the Chesapeake where he passed peacefully in his sleep after being there less than 12 hours. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn, his sister Margaret Parks, and his grandson William Wells and is survived by his brother David W. Reynolds of Baltimore, his daughter Valerie Wells , her husband Ronald Wells and grandson Robert Wells of Cooper City, Florida, by son David Bosley-Reynolds of Baltimore, MD, his border collie Wulfric, and his tuxedo cat Lucy. " There is no death when you live in the hearts of those you've left behind ."
