A native Californian, Nancy was born at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles (currently known as Cedars-Sinai) on April 11, 1931 to the late Clarence Grosvenor Freeman and Charlotte Howe Freeman. She grew up in Santa Monica CA where she attended Santa Monica High School, graduating in 1949. She then attended Santa Monica City College where she was May Queen and also Homecoming Queen. Pursuing Theatre Arts, she received an acting award before graduating with an AA degree in 1951. She continued her Theatre studies at UCLA where she pledged Gamma Phi Beta in 1951. In 1952 she was awarded UCLA Homecoming Queen. Upon Leaving UCLA, she worked for the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica where she later transferred with Rand to Washington DC. While there she was invited sailing with friends on the Rhode River, Galesville, MD where she would meet her future husband.
Nancy loved the beach and swimming in the pacific ocean. She furthered her love of the Arts and Art history through travel, she spent 3 months in Florence Italy and traveled extensively abroad with her mother and brother and later with her husband and children. She was a dedicated mother but part of her heart was always in Santa Monica where she spent many summers with her children at her childhood home. Nancy was sharp as tack and nothing got past her. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She was a role model of honesty and integrity and displayed great poise. Even in her final moments she was funny. She will be dearly missed.
Nancy is survived by her children, Robin Meredith (Randy) Kuser of Baltimore, Cary F. “Barry” (Liz) Meredith of Jensen Beach, FL and Susan F. Meredith of Annapolis, MD; 4 granddaughters, Mary “Mattie” Meredith, Charlotte Meredith Howe, Meredith A Kuser and Anne “Annie” Lapides; great grandson Miles Cary Howe. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Cary L. Meredith and her brother Peter H. (Mary) Freeman of Independence, MO.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartlands Hospice or the YWCA of Anne Arundel County.
