MARJORIE KLAKRING STEVENS Marjorie Jeanne (Klakring) Stevens, 88, of Annapolis , MD, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016 with her family at her side in her home following a brief illness. Born in Eastport on October 23, 1928, she lived and worked her entire life in the Eastport and Annapolis communities. For 52 years, Marge and her husband, George “Bud” Stevens, owned and operated their hardware store at the Annapolis City Dock, from 1960 until the store’s closing on Christmas Eve in 2012. Marge attended Eastport Elementary School and later graduated from Annapolis High School in 1945 with the highest academic standing in her class. As World War II was ending, at age 16, she went to work at the Naval Academy as a secretary in the Department of Seamanship and Navigation and also worked, part-time, typing Academy professors’ course book manuscripts. In 1960, she and Bud took over a hardware business at the City Dock which was previously operated by the John Dawes family. Even after Bud passed away in 1997, Marge continued to operate the store with her family and she was a fixture behind the store’s cash register, providing a welcoming smile to Annapolis visitors and serving the downtown Annapolis community she so adored and loved. Marge was devoted to her family and friends and spent her spare time cherishing them and enjoying her life on Spa Creek. Marge is survived by her three sons, George R. (Randy) Stevens, Richard A. Stevens (Connie) and Mark W. Stevens (Sharon), along with her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Clarence R. Klakring, Jr. (Marian) of Annapolis, MD, and her sister, Janet Sharpe (Owen) of Pensacola, FL. Funeral services will be held at Eastport United Methodist Church (926 Bay Ridge Avenue) at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at John M Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis on Monday, October 31, 2016, from 6-8:00pm and on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that a modest donation be made in Marge’s honor to Eastport United Methodist Church where she was an active member her entire life.
