Kate was born on August 25, 1949 in Juneau, Alaska and raised there with her parents, John and Harriett Kelly, and older siblings, Tom and Nancy.
She was a proud mother to her daughter, Christen, starting her career in the life insurance industry in Northern Virginia. She married Christopher Hutchinson on January 6, 1979 and settled in Annapolis, where they spent wonderful family times with Christen and stepchildren, Todd and Laura.
Kate worked alongside Chris as Executive Vice President of Self Funding Administrators Corporation, a regional Third Party Administrator, serving many clients in the mid-Atlantic region. After Chris passed away in 2012, she continued as a health care consultant for Orchestrate and was always passionate about providing top notch service to her clients.
She treasured most of all spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She loved training and competing in agility with her many golden and flat coat retriever dogs; travelling, especially times on Nantucket with her family and closest friends, visiting her grandchildren in the French Alps, and exploring St Barths and the Carribean with her husband Craig.
Although the past two years were difficult ones, she was so delighted to marry Craig Distelhorst on June 10th, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harriett and John Kelly; brother, Tom; sister, Nancy, and husband, Chris.
Kate is survived by her current husband, Craig Distelhorst; daughter, Christen Sweeney; stepson, Todd Hutchinson; and stepdaughter, Laura Shine; seven grandchildren, Shannon Sweeney, P.J. Sweeney, Declan Sweeney, Timothy Hutchinson, Ryan Hutchinson, Hannah Shine and Nathan Shine.
