Heather Schafer at the age of 52, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 15th at her home in Arnold, Maryland.
Born October 10, 1968 in Monterey, CA, she is the oldest child of James Morrison and the late Renna Morrison. She leaves behind her fiancé, Joseph Harthcock, her son, William Schafer; sister Sheehan Misko, brother-in-law Ronald Misko Jr, nieces Kelsea and Kaylin Misko; brother, MacKenzie Morrison; Aunt and Uncle, Missy and Jon Morrison and several cousins.
Growing up in Salem, Ohio, Heather went on to graduate from The Ohio State University, held a master's degree in nonprofit and association management from the University of Maryland, and earned her Certified Association Executive credential from the American Society of Association Executives. She served as an administrative member of the Arnold Volunteer Fire Department in Maryland since 2020. Heather served as CEO for 27 years with the National Volunteer Fire Council where she made a significant impact on volunteer fire and emergency services.
Heather enjoyed everything about Maryland and living and on the water. She loved spending time boating, kayaking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, March 23rd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Wednesday, March 24th from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm immediately followed by a service at 1:00 pm. Both the calling hours and service will be held at John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, Maryland.
