Elaine Ernestine Griffiths

Elaine Griffiths died peacefully on January 12, 2021 in Annapolis. Elaine was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 14, 1942 to John and Marguerite Turri. She was raised in Buffalo, New York along with her brothers, Mark Turri of Scottsdale, Arizona; Michael Turri of Williamsville, New York; and, John Turri of Kenmore, New York.

Elaine married Richard Griffiths in 1963. The couple moved to Nashua, New Hampshire, where they lived for almost 40 years, raising their four children, Christopher Griffiths of Annapolis, Maryland; Brian Griffiths of Loveland, Ohio; Karen Groome of Washington, D.C.; and, Sheila Griffiths of Los Angeles, California.

Elaine loved to learn. She received her BS with honors in Nursing from D’Youville College, and practiced as a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years. After her retirement from nursing, she received her Masters Degree in Education, and began teaching English as a second language in 1997. In addition to her graduate and post graduate education, she read veraciously, and delighted in educating herself by taking college courses in any subject that caught her interest.

Elaine moved with her husband to Annapolis in 2010 to be closer to her grandchildren. Elaine embraced her new home, and quickly established roots. As a member of the Severn House community, Elaine was a member of the Book Club, the Garden Club and the “Severn House Yacht Club.” She volunteered at the Cadia Healthcare nursing home in Eastport. She was active in regional politics, volunteering with the campaigns of several Democratic politicians. Although Elaine lived in Annapolis for only 10 years, she made many friends, and touched many lives with her ebullient personality

Elaine’s greatest joy was her grandchildren; Nick, Jess, Nina, Gianna, Joey, Ella, Mikey, Kam, Roya and Hannah. Each of them will carry cherished memories of her love and kindness.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Friends and family are encouraged to pay their respects at that time. However, those who wish to call may do so at the John M. Taylor funeral home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, Maryland on Tuesday, January 19 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. A private internment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis.
