David was born December 28, 1960 in Virginia Beach, VA, the fifth child of Wakefield and Alberta Stornetta. During his father’s career as a naval officer the family moved from Virginia Beach to Newport, RI and finally to Annapolis, where they made a home in Winchester-on-the-Severn in Arnold, MD.
He attended Arnold Elementary School, and graduated from Severna Park High School, Class of 1979. After establishing his business in Maryland, he then moved to Connecticut where he worked for many years, from Norwalk to New Haven, and to Gladstone, NJ, where he worked as a project supervisor for the development of the Hamilton Farms golf course. Subsequently, he returned to the Arnold area where he lived until recently retiring in Cambridge, MD.
David loved to work with his hands, and had an appreciation for anything with an engine. From boats to cars to motorcycles, he always wanted to make things go faster. During his career he developed extensive skill in landscape architecture, with a special emphasis in stone masonry. He operated two companies, Shelton Landscaping and Stornetta Stoneworks, and his craftsmanship can be found in evidence at many homes throughout the Broadneck peninsula.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Alberta 'IV' Stornetta. He is survived by two sisters and a brother: Ruth Stornetta, of Charlottesville, VA, Mary Beth Gale, of East Falmouth, Massachusetts and W. Scott Stornetta of Morristown, NJ. In addition, he has 3 nieces, 2 nephews, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke Of Gloucester St, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. Relatives and friends are invited for a reception in the Funeral Home Catering Room after the service. (Please contact David's sister Ruth of your attendance so she may have an approximate count of people.)
