David Ammarell Peters of Shady Side, Maryland passed away on March 6th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. David was born October 10th, 1974 at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, D.C. to Anne and John Peters.
David, also known as Dave (and lovingly in childhood as Pee Wee), grew up in Clinton, Maryland and graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1992.
Upon graduation, David quickly began honing his innate skill with all things mechanical. His family remembers discovering David as a toddler having undone a screw from his playpen on his own — an early glimpse of his future career path, and a clear indicator of his curiosity and mischievousness.
This early curiosity eventually grew into quite a livelihood, and proved to be the ‘key’ to his professional success. David was the locks and door lead in the Engineering Department at Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center for over fifteen years, where he was responsible for the entire property. He coupled his skillset with his friendly demeanor, always wanting to help out and put a smile on people’s face.
Coming of age in the 80s meant David developed a deep love of music of all genres. He played the keyboard and, later, the bass — even joining a band with friends, Sunday Grub, for several years that brought good times. He was artistic well beyond music, and as a teen he loved to sketch. He was particularly fond of cars and sketched them often, another interest that would deepen over the years. David was passionate about skateboarding as a youth, and his handy nature was put to good use in building his own ramps with friends.
As an adult, David truly embraced the Maryland lifestyle, boating, fishing, and crabbing — all things instilled in him growing up. He and his late father, Jack, (Big Peetuz and Little Peetuz) both had boats that they took pride in and enjoyed time on. David took after ‘pops’ with his knack for tinkering and fixing, maybe to a fault, and it was something they bonded — and bickered about :) — over the years. He also loved spending time by the water at the beach in Ocean City, MD, which was his go-to quick getaway.
Despite always being slim, David had a huge appetite for food. He found great joy in both cooking and eating. Grilling and trying out spices became a favorite way to spend an afternoon. And if it was football season, he could always be found rooting for the NY Giants.
David had a kind heart. His loving nature was at his core, wanting to give and receive it. He loved to share silly moments — do a goofy dance or make a sly crack — to connect with someone. He loved his family, chosen and biological. He was a hard worker and did his best to provide for his loved ones. David was a wonderful friend and partner, to his current partner, Deanna and her child Amber, and to his former wife, Jennifer, and her children Sarah, Logan and Kevin.
David was a tender and caring son to his “favorite mom”, Anne. David was a loving brother to his younger sister, Cathleen, who will especially miss the knowing looks, the Peetuz inside jokes, and especially being called “sis”. David was kind and giving and funny, and will be missed by all who knew him.
David is survived by his mother Anne L. Peters of Reading, PA; sister Cathleen A. Peters of Brooklyn, NY; Aunts Gail Zielin (Henry Zielin) of Setauket, NY and Nancy Anderson (Robert Anderson) of Glen Allen, Virginia; Uncles Jimmy Peters of Euless, Texas and William Peters of Wheaton, Maryland; as well as many loving cousins and friends from all over the DMV area. He is preceded in death by his father John C. Peters of Deale, MD.
A memorial visitation for David will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 1 - 3pm and from 5 - 7pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. A celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 11:30 am at Deale Beach Community Center 938 Main Street Deale, Maryland 20751.
