Anne Buckley Berger was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 27, 1926, to Roland and Regina Berger. She spent her early years in Baltimore, before moving to Chevy Chase, Maryland. She attended the Academy of the Holy Cross and graduated from Trinity College with a degree in Mathematics. She met the late Captain James (Jim) Lennon Anderson while he was a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy.
Anne and Jim were married at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, D.C. in 1948. Fully embracing a military life, Anne supported Jim in his life as a naval officer, moving numerous times back and forth across country. She was involved with various programs such as the Navy Relief Fund, Navy Wives’ Club, and served on various naval station committees. As homemaker and mother to their four children, Anne remained the constant in their lives whenever Jim’s career took him away. She enjoyed bowling and golf for as long as she could. She was a voracious reader and had a lifelong passion for playing bridge.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; their daughter, Nancy Gordon; and their son-in-law, Bill Coppedge. She is survived by daughters, Dorothy Bahr (Casey), Jeanne Coppedge, and Kimberly Diana (Dino). She leaves behind six loving grandchildren: Erin Hoganson (Chris), Kelly Wittpenn (Jack), Lisa Neiderer (Shane), Nikki Curran (Ed), Kristina Diana, and Steven Diana; and three great grandchildren: Connor Hoganson, Shelby Hoganson, and Cayden Neiderer.
