Mr. Loper was a lifelong resident of Michigan, having lived in the Ann Arbor area for more than 80 years before moving to live with his son in Maryland in 2012. He was born in 1924 to Jasper G. and Alice P. (nee Chase) Loper in Central Lake, Michigan. After moving to Ann Arbor, Mr. Loper served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat medic. After serving his country, Mr. Loper worked for the same Ann Arbor company for over 40 years as a tool and die maker and production supervisor. He was an avid beekeeper and amateur radio enthusiast for many years. Mr. Loper also served in church as a choir member, usher, and Sunday school bus driver; in addition, he was an active Gideon.
Mr. Loper is survived by his son, Robert C. (Sandra) Loper II and daughter, Devyn Treaster; one sister, Betty Hadley; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Kesler (to whom he was a second father and whom he helped to rear); four grandchildren, Robert C. Loper III, Jimmy Loper, Jessica Loper and Rocky Gonzales; one great-grandchild, Jadon Loper, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Iris (nee Treaster) Loper and Doris Konarske Loper, and by his brother, Jack Loper.
Friends may call at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor from 12:00-1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Mr. Robert C. Loper III officiating.
