Born November 3rd, 1921 in Kenton, Tennessee, to Blanche and Randall R. Davis, Louie grew up learning to hunt, fish, and work the land. On graduating high school, he moved to Ann Arbor, going to work for the Kroger Company as a meat cutter. After 46 years of employment and countless awards for innovation in meat merchandizing, he retired in 1985.
In 1945, he fell in love with Hilda Threlfall, who became his wife, and preceded him in death in 1992. During his life he was active in local sports as a coach, and volunteered his time willingly to the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Assocation; Ann Arbor Little League, and to the Pioneer and Huron High School hockey programs. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he also loved to garden, golf and bowl. He was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his two sons, Randall (Rudy) Davis and his wife Beverly, of Salt Lake City, and Kevin Davis and his wife, Ellen, of Saline; Five grandchildren; Matthew Davis and his wife Stacy, of Pinckney; Elisha Davis of New York City; Elena Davis of Ann Arbor; Jeffrey Hone and his wife Annette, of Smiths Creek, MI, and Brandi Mullen and her husband, Jay, of Franklin, MA; five great-grandchildren: Blake Davis of Pinckney; Cooper and Dalanie Hone of Smiths Creek, MI, and Hunter and Mackenzie Mullen of Franklin, MA.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 16, 2009 at Muehlig’s Funeral Home, Ann Arbor, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Muehlig Funeral Chapel at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 17, 2011 with burial to follow at Washtenong Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, it was Louie’s wish that donations be made be made to the Washtenaw Humane Society.
