Ballard, Lloyd E. of Ann Arbor, MI Age 90. Lloyd passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family September 18, 2010. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI to Walter Ballard and Anna (Kuebler) Ballard the oldest of 5 who all preceded him in death. He married Geneva Back September 28, 1944 before he shipped overseas to serve in the European Theater during WWII. He was attached to the 9th Army, 102nd Infantry Division, 405th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company I where he valiantly served his country including participating in engagement at the battle of the bulge for which he earned the Bronze Star for bravery. Additional awards and citations include: European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal & Bronze Star (Double), World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Germany, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Metal, & Marksman Badge and Rifle Bar. Lloyd retired in 1985 after more than 20 years of employment at NSK as a machine operator. He was a member of Memorial Christian Church, where he served many years as a deacon, VFW Life Member post 423 and was involved as a child and adult in the Boys Scouts of America. He had a passion and self taught skill for wood working producing numerous projects and furniture to the delight and benefit of all who received them. He enjoyed the reputation as being able to fix anything a child could break and it was often heard "Dad (Grampa) can fix it". He will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and nephew as well as a kind and loving soul to all that had the honor to meet him. In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his 4 children, Douglas (Kathy) Ballard, Pamela Dotimas, Teresa (Jay) Roberts, Kevin (Allison) Ballard, 7 grandchildren, Michelle (Tim), Jay (Jennifer), Amy (Dave) Shawn (Kristin) Melissa, David, Andrew, and 5 great grandchildren, Christian, Sabrina, Nathan, Joshua & Paige as well as many nieces and nephews who were all the light in his life. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, 9/23/10 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S Fourth Ave, Ann Arbor, 48104 officiated by Reverend Diane Smith followed by internment with service and military honors at Bethlehem Cemetery. All are welcome to join family and loved ones immediately after the service to break bread and celebrate Lloyd's life at the VFW Hall 3230 S Wagner Rd, Ann Arbor from 1-3 pm.Visitation will be on Wednesday 9/22/10 from 4-8 pm.
