This obituary for Dr. LaFaid Johnson, Jr. celebrates his life with humor. He was born on October 6, 1957, and raised in Los Angeles, CA. His legacy is not only one of academic and professional accomplishments, but also as a dedicated family man, brother, friend, and a man of many talents. He developed real friendships that lasted through many shifts and changes in his life. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and often spent his spare time researching topics of interest or reading books and watching Jeopardy. Like his brother, Carl, he loved music and was an avid record collector. He also liked traveling, and dancing and had a passion for law enforcement where he served as a reserve police officer for the Culver City Police Department.
He moved to Michigan with his wife, Yolanda, and daughters, Jessica and Alicia. He enjoyed going to his daughters' sporting events and being the best dad he could be. He liked the outdoors, gardening, and barbecuing. His pride and joy were his manicured lawn, and he could be seen working on the lawn until late at night. He liked playing golf, shooting at the range, going to rodeos, football games, and movies. He was a humorous storyteller and could entertain people for hours. Here, he had close relationships with family and genuine friendships that brought comfort and happiness to his life.
He fought a long battle with Lupus, all the while still thanking God for blessing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, including his extended family in Texas, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was say goodbye to you, your kindness, your love, and your sense of humor, and saddened you won't be here to enjoy the things and people you love. Yolanda
