Jo Ann’s family lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Nashville,Tennessee before moving to Appleton, Wisconsin where the family owned “Wohlfords”, a women’s clothing boutique in the heart of the small downtown, and where she attended Appleton High School, graduating in 1953. She then attended Lawrence University, graduating in 1957, and set off for a great adventure traveling across Europe. Jo Ann’s job in pharmaceutical research for Parke-Davis brought her to Ann Arbor, Michigan where she made lifelong friends with coworkers and housemates, joined the ski club, became a private pilot often flying up to Boyne airstrip to ski on the weekends, drove her TR3 convertible year round rain or shine with the top down, and met her husband Grant whom she married in 1965.
After living in Kentucky, Ohio, Georgia, New Hampshire and Missouri, Jo Ann returned to Ann Arbor where the children grew up and she lived the rest of her life. Jo Ann’s door was always open and everyone felt welcome. She was gracious, loving, and kind and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed a good game of bridge, did crosswords in ink, and took calculus for fun. Above all, she was an amazing mom and a loyal friend and she will be dearly missed.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband Grant. She is survived by her son Grant Wohlford Peters, daughter and son-in-law Tracy Lynn and Matthew Guyer, two grandchildren Katie Ann and Matthew Grant Guyer, and her brother and sister-in-law George Anthony and Louise Wohlford. A celebration of life is being planned.
