Jerome Hall, fondly known as "Romey", was called home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2019. Jerome departed this earth peacefully, at home, surrounded by family. Jerome was born on June 30, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia. Jerome was the son of William Hall, Hattie Lambert, and Coleman Wright.
Jerome grew up in Savannah, Georgia, alongside his beloved brother Sonny (Irma) Wright. He graduated from Alfred Ely Beach High School, in the Class of 1957. After graduating from High School he made his way to Camden, New Jersey where he lived for several years, then later moved to and resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan until his transition home to be with the Lord.
Jerome was employed by and worked for the City of Ann Arbor in the Department of Roads, Parks and Recreation for over thirty-five years before retiring in 1999. Jerome loved his job and co-workers. He especially loved the autonomy and the freedom of working outdoors.
Jerome truly loved the Lord and gave his life at an early age in Savannah, Georgia. As he continued his love for the Lord, he later became a Member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, of Ann Arbor, Michigan joining under the leadership of Reverend John A. Woods, followed by Dr. Joseph N. Cousins, Sr., and ending under the leadership of Reverend Mashod A. Evans. While at Bethel A.M.E., Jerome served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board and sang with the Male Chorus for over forty years. He loved his Church Family deeply and was a faithful and dedicated Servant of the Lord.
Jerome was a lifetime Member of the Elks. He served James L. Crawford Lodge #322, located at 220 Sunset St., Ann Arbor Michigan for over 50 years. He was a Member of the Past Grand Circle, Shrine Department and Education Department. He held the following Offices: Esteemed Leading Knight, Director of Beauty and Talent Department for the Michigan State Association, and Exalted Ruler.
Jerome's favorite hobbies included watching and attending sports events. He was an extremely dedicated U of M fan and loved any Pro Sports Team affiliated with the City of Detroit. He especially loved attending and supporting his grandchildren's football and track events. He looked forward to playing cards with family and friends and hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners annually with his wife Katie at their home. He looked forward to always attending his granddaughter, Bianca and grandson in law, Terrance's annual Christmas Party. He enjoyed listening to music, singing and dancing on Saturday morning's while making pancakes. He also enjoyed riding his bike around the neighborhood. He always looked forward to the Senior Bus Trip Outings, and attending Charity Luncheons. He loved traveling a couple times a year, and especially enjoyed Cruises. But his all-time favorite pastime was spending time with his great- grandchildren coloring for hours.
Jerome, was preceded in death by his beloved parents William Hall, Hattie Lambert, and Coleman (Agnes) Wright, his brother Sonny Wright, his son Stephan Hawkins, and his grandson Elijah David Moore- Hall.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his wife, Katie Mae Hall; sister in laws, Irma Wright and Aletha Carter. His Mother's sister, and only surviving aunt, Mattie Lewis. His children Kirk (Wanda) Thomas, Eric (Sheree Moore) Hall, Vincent (Sonya ) Hall. His (step)children Aubrey Lundy, Barry Wilson, Sonya Wilson and Stephanie "Lynn" Wilson.
A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whom he cherished and loved dearly.
Jerome was a man who never met a stranger. He had an infectious smile that brightened any room that he entered.
The Family would especially like to thank those who cared for our loved one, DaVita Dialysis (Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor), Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital (McAuley Drive, Ann Arbor), and Arbor Hospice (Ann Arbor) staff , and his loving care givers at home, Yolanda and Jayla Copeland.
