Age 89, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020, peacefully with his family by his side. He was born January 6, 1931, in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Paul Helmut and Alma Lucy (Keedle) Wesenberg. He was the youngest by 7 years of six siblings. The family lived on Dixboro Road where his father ran the dam. He recalled memories of helping his father open and close the dam during storms. David had an affinity for cars growing up. He sold his stamp collection and used the money to purchase his first car. He built a garage with his father and they would work on many different cars. He attended a one room school house, and was the only person in his grade until he started high school. He went to Ann Arbor High and was on the wrestling team and played football. He took third in state in wrestling. After he graduated he joined the army and received his GI Bill. He then put himself through college at Michigan State and even went on to graduate school. He met Rosemary Murray of Detroit at Silver Lake Beach. She was a nurse who lived and worked in Ann Arbor. They married on September 1, 1956. The new family moved to Lancaster, PA for a few years before returning to Ann Arbor. In 1966 they welcomed their daughter Susan, and in 1968 a son, Peter. They were very social in their neighborhood and made many lifelong friends. David was an avid gardener and spent many hours in the yard. He also loved to talk to anyone who might walk by. They loved to travel and were fortunate to see much of the US and also travel abroad. They spent several weeks every summer in Glen Arbor on the lake and eventually bought and remodeled a cottage. They loved to host their family and friends there. In 1983 they built their second home only 2 miles from their first. David worked for Masco Corporation as VP of Human Resources until he retired in 1996. He loved his career and work and made many lifelong friends there. When Rosemary’s health began to fail, he adjusted his life to care for her and kept humor in the difficult times until her passing in 2010. They spent 54 years in a happy loving marriage despite differences in politics and religion. He remained in their home another 6 years, spending time in the yard and with friends. In 2016, as it became harder for him to keep up with the house and yard, he moved to Illinois to be closer to Susan and his grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Susan Mary Young; his son, Peter David Wesenberg; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Charles and David Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Carl Alden and Donald Paul; sister, Ellen Lucy. A memorial mass for David will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 2250 East Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. Contributions in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s association.
