Anne was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. A graduate of Washington State University with a BA in Recreation, Anne was a member of Pi Phi Sorority, and became the chapter president. At WSU Anne met her husband, Raymond Chase. Anne and Ray were married in 1951, and lived in Spokane, WA, Los Altos, CA and then Evanston, IL before moving to Ann Arbor in 1959.
In 1965, Anne and Ray built a home where they lived out their lives, raising their two daughters. The home was a source of pride, with beautiful rhododendron gardens and the place of happy gatherings with friends, children, and grandchildren for decades. The family also enjoyed several dogs over the years, including Anne’s faithful companion of 15 years, a Puli named Molly.
In Ann Arbor, Anne and Ray grew lifelong friendships while attending UofM sporting and musical events. With their families on the West Coast, their friends became family away from home, and the Chases were active golfers and tennis players. Anne won several golf tournaments over the years at clubs in MI and FL. Anne continued her lifelong friendships through the decades, hosting dinners and lunches, as recent as this past summer on her backyard patio. Anne volunteered for many local charities, most notably delivering Meals on Wheels for 32 years with her dear friend, Cozy Grabb.
Anne and Ray were avid travelers, as they visited six continents over the years. They also enjoyed special trips to New York to take in the Opera and Broadway shows. The Chases also enjoyed spending winters in Siesta Key, FL. However, Anne’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends, and Anne especially enjoyed celebrating holidays and birthdays.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband Raymond S. Chase, parents William S. and Frances Loveless McCrea, sister Jean McCrea Olson, and nephew Marc Olson, along with many cherished friends.
Anne is survived by her two daughters, Mary Jane Chase of Ann Arbor and Katherine Chase Koupal (Kenneth) of Northville MI, grandson Andrew Chase Koupal (Jessica Krueger Koupal) of Dearborn, MI, and granddaughter Sarah Katherine Koupal (Harrison Fry), of Holland, MI. Anne is also survived by her nieces Karen Olson Andrascik (Roger), and Linda Olson Williams (Greg), Gina Olson, along with great nieces and nephews Sean Andrascik, Hannah Andrascik, Neal Olson, Bradley Olson, and Leah Olson.
On Friday December 22nd from 12:00 noon until 3:00pm, the family is hosting an open house celebration of Anne’s life at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor. A buffet lunch will be served from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on State Street in Ann Arbor at 10:30 am the same day.
