Tracy Travers Warnock, age 80, passed away at home surrounded by family on September 27, 2024. A funeral service will be held on October 8, 2024 at 12:30pm at Ankeny Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm on October 8, 2024. There will be a luncheon following the burial at VFW Post 9662 Boline-Manfredi. 1309 NE 66th Ave. Des Moines Iowa 50313.
Tracy was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on August 28, 1944 to Oliver and Marion (Parker) Warnock. Tracy was the youngest of his three siblings, Donna (Jim) Dwyer, Nancy (Duane) Miller, and Michael (Joan) Warnock. He attended Storm Lake Schools K-12, and graduated high school in 1962. He attended Buena Vista College before joining the local Iowa Army National Guard. He received his BA from the University of New York.
Tracy was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved watching his favorite teams, which were the St. Louis Cardinals, Packers, and Hawkeyes.
Tracy spent the vast amount of his adult life working for the Iowa Army National Guard. He rose through the enlisted ranks as Sergeant First Class E7 prior to receiving his commission through the Iowa Military Academy at Camp Dodge. He had numerous enlisted and commissioned assignments in the Field Artillery branch, which included Battery Commander of three units, brigade S2 and S3, field artillery S3 and S4, and battalion commander for five years. He was Commander 34th Division Artillery in Minnesota for 3 years, and Commander 185th Regiment (RTI), formerly Iowa Military Academy, for 5 years. He was promoted to Brigadier General upon his retirement.
Tracy is survived by his fiancee and partner for the last twenty years, Christine Scott; his three daughters from his prior marriage with Frances Toni Brander, Stephanie Warnock (Anchorage, AK), Amy (Craig) Kolacia (Fort Dodge, IA), and Molly Warnock (Austin, TX); four grandchildren, Nathan Kolacia, Samuel Kolacia, Bella O'Neil, and Isaac O'Neil. Bella is currently serving our country in the U.S. Navy, following in Grandpa's footsteps, which he was very proud of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and infant grandson, Gabriel Kolacia.
