Richard Rick Stephan Schafer

Memorial services for Rick will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

Richard Stephan Schafer was born February 14, 1939, in Omaha, NE to Richard and Kathleen Schafer. Rick grew up in Omaha before moving to Denver where he graduated from high school. Following graduation, Rick attended Creighton University before enlisting in the United States Army and proudly served his country.

After an honorable discharge from the Army, Rick began his career working in sales for Carpenter Paper Company. On February 16, 1974, Rick was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Falbo. The couple made their home in Ankeny and were bless with 42 years of marriage. Rick later took a position with Mario Falbo and Associates where he was the executive vice-president. Ending his career, Rick returned to the printing industry at Hansen Printing until his retirement in 2004.

Rick always enjoyed being active and liked swimming, biking and walking. He also treasured his 1989 custom Ford Mustang along with all classic cars. Most of all, Rick was a family man and loved spending time with Pat, his children, and grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart.

Rick is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Rikki Jo (Travis) Robinson, Mario Schafer, Krystal Bledsoe, and Stephanie Adams; and grandchildren, Quinn Richard Robinson, Kathleen Rochelle Robinson, Krystal Black, Joshua Black, and Dakota Bledsoe. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael Schafer.
