A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. 1st Street, Ankeny, IA. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9-10 am. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery, 502 S. 4th Street, Winterset, Iowa immediately following the memorial service.
Michael is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Jim (Julie) Dean of Granbury, TX, Kim (Marty) Smith of Ankeny, IA and Michelle Dean of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Justin (Carrie) Dean of Charleston, SC, Jentry (Katye) Dean of Trussville, AL, Kaitlin Smith of Carlisle, IA and Jacob Smith of Ankeny, IA; great-grandchildren, Sam William, Sullivan and Harris of Charleston, SC and John Michael and Rolleigh Dean of Trussville, AL; sister Sheryl (Dale) Faux of Patterson, IA and Larry Dean of Winterset, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael is preceded in death by his daughter Christine Anderson, parents Howard and Hazel Dean, and sister Joyce Stanford.
Michael William Dean was born August 17, 1939. He was raised on a farm in Macksburg, IA and attended Macksburg High School where he was a member of the Glee Club, served on the School Newspaper, participated in showing cattle in 4-H, played the violin and was Senior Class President. On June 22, 1958 he was united in marriage to Sharon Ham. In 1962 he graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Business. Michael took great pleasure in traveling the country roads visiting with Iowa farmers as he managed farms and later as a district manager with Funk Seed Company. He was a member of Toast Master’s for 15+ years.
Michael William Dean delighted in sharing and celebrating the same birthday with his first-born great-grandson, Sam William Dean. Michael enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and eating pie.
Michael’s family celebrates the life and the witness and the ways he showed the world God’s heart. The family rejoices in the knowledge that he is spending eternity with his daughter, Christine.
Pallbearers are Jim Dean, Marty Smith, Justin Dean, Jentry Dean, Kaitlin Smith and Jacob Smith.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project.
