Marlene Jane Maire, age 79 of Ankeny, IA passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020. A private family burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery with a memorial service being planned for a later date.
Marlene was born on May 21, 1940, in Anamosa, IA, to Paul and Beatrice (Keating) Oeschger. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Monticello, IA in 1958. Marlene was united in marriage to George Maire on June 4, 1960 at Sacred Heart in Monticello, they welcomed four children. She worked as a secretary for IBM and also in the Hy-Vee Deli and Bakery. Marlene lived at the Villages in Florida and also at the Vintage Coop in Ankeny where she had made many friends over the years.
Marlene enjoyed playing mahjong with her friends, golfing, gambling and playing cards with her family. She liked watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Marlene and George traveled all over the world. She was an avid Catholic throughout her whole life.
Marlene is survived by a brother: Carl (Carol) Esker, half sister, Helen Seymour, sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Oeschger; children: Martin (Cindy) Maire, Joseph (Lori) Maire, Susan (Stanley) Horner and Jeffrey (Margie) Maire; grandchildren: Jennifer (Adam) Maire, Nick (Keleigh) Maire, Rachel Horner, Eric Horner, Wyatt Maire, Alex (Kayla) Maire, Katie (Chris) Maire, Rebecca Maire, Courtney Maire, and Ryan Maire. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, parents, Paul and Beatrice Oeschger and siblings, Joyce Murray, Patricia Oeschger, Kenneth Oeschger and Marlene's twin sister who passed shortly after birth, Maureen Oeschger.
