Cathey was born on May 21, 1952 to Loren and Joyce F. (Welch) Marshman in Elgin, Illinois. She graduated from John Hersey High School in 1970 in Elgin, Illinois. She attended Elgin Community College and later attended DuPage Community College for Interior Design. Cathey was a skilled interior designer starting her career at Expo Center and retiring from Lowes in 2021. She was united in marriage on December 2, 1997 to Bruce Robert Quantock off the coast of Key West on the Carnival Cruise Ship, Ecstasy. They celebrated their 25th anniversary on a cruise ship to commemorate their wedding day.

Cathey loved going on cruises with Bruce, and she spent many hours doing word searches. She was a member of the “Rolling Relics” Car Club. A group of the car club members meet every Tuesday night to go out to dinner either in Ankeny or Des Moines. She drove a Chevy Corvair that was restored by Bruce.

Cathey is survived by her husband, Bruce; step daughter, Beth Grafft and her husband, Mike and her step grandson, Gavin Grafft.
