Barbara Jean Pearson

Barbara J. Pearson, 91, a longtime Ankeny resident, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Altoona Nursing and Rehab in Altoona, IA. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017, at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First St. Ankeny, IA 50023). Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Ankeny Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Bondurant Cemetery in Bondurant.

Barbara was born on August 1, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Burton and Blanche (Stemler) Justice. She graduated from Bondurant High School. Barbara was united in Marriage to Glen Pearson on April 4, 1945 in Des Moines, he passed away in 2002. They were blessed with three sons: Dennis, Roger and Larry.

Barbara was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Ankeny Methodist Church. She loved attending sporting events; especially anything her grandchildren were involved in, going to swimming meets or dance recitals and Ankeny basketball games. She was an excellent baker and sewed clothing as well. Barbara taught her grandchildren how to play dominos and she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles also. She claimed to have read every book in the Bondurant library!

Barbara is survived by her two children: Roger (Kate) Pearson of Polk City, IA, Larry Pearson of Radcliffe, IA and Tracey Pearson, and daughter-in-law Ginny Pearson of Des Moines; six grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Fisher, Audrey (Greg) Bell, Chad (Rachel) Pearson, Richele Pearson, Chris (Carla) Pearson and Mike (Renee) Pearson; and 10 great-grandchildren, sister, Bev (Joe) Bianchi of Ankeny and longtime companion, Merrill Hall of Bondurant. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen Pearson and eldest son, Dennis Pearson.
