On Monday, December 5, 2022, Harry "Bob" Robert Duncan (Bob), a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family; he was 5 weeks short of turning 101.
Bob was born January 15, 1922, in Bonners Ferry, ID. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He spent most of his adult life in southern California. He was a butcher, fine cabinetry maker, police officer, and probation officer. Bob was proud of his work as a counselor at a camp for troubled teenage boys without homes. There he taught them construction skills and instilled in them the confidence that they would need to become a proud adult in society. Many of them kept in touch long after they had re-entered the real world.
He worked as a volunteer at the Maritime Museum in San Diego, CA as a master model builder. Bob drove himself 50 miles each way to San Diego from his home in Oceanside to build large-scale models of famous sailing ships until he was 96 years old. He considered tourists who came in to watch him work in the model shop to be new friends. Bob enjoyed boating, fishing, and being with his family. He moved to Iowa in July of 2021.
Bob is survived by his sister Lonnie McLeon and by 3 children: 2 daughters, Toni Dean (husband Tom), Barbara Duncan, and by one son, Richard Duncan (wife Maureen). He also left behind 6 grandchildren, Heather Hall (husband Doug) children Max and Emma. Jeff Duncan (wife Mylinh) children Ryan and Cloe. Melissa Simone (husband Xavier) children Ella and Charlotte. John Dean. Robert Dean (wife Amber) children Walker, Addie, Judah, Atticus, Jonah, Wyatt, and Asher. Sheri Dean (husband Scott). He had numerous nieces and nephews. His ashes, as well as those of his beloved wife Myrna, will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.StevensMemorialChapel.com for the Duncan family.
