Robert served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years and the United States Marines Corps. for 24 years before retiring. He was a highly decorated Marine. He served in WWII in the Pacific Theater serving on 2 submarines, and the Korean War twice. During the Korean War he was part of the “Frozen Chosin”. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star with Valor and the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor and numerous other medals. After retiring from the Marine Corps he moved to Harlingen, Texas and taught at the Marine Military Academy. He also taught MCJROTC at Caprock High School. He was a volunteer at BSA Hospital where he was known as the “popcorn man”. Robert was a member of the Marine Corps. League. He enjoyed woodworking and sports of all kinds. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and a huge Boston Red Sox fan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by: parents Edward and Clara Lacourse, and 2 brothers Richard Joseph Lacourse and Leo Joseph Lacourse
He is survived by his loving wife Eleanor; daughter Sherie McManaman and husband Dennis of Amarillo; Grandchildren Christopher Hammack; Megan Hammack; Casey Watson; Dennis McManaman II; great grandchildren Conner Watson; Harley McManaman; Brantley McManaman; Lilly McManaman.; and great-great grandson Parker Springer.
