Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Private family entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Minnie was born July 10, 1929, to Robert Walter and Zela Mae Lane. She went home to her mansion in glory to be with her Lord on June 3, 2013. Minnie grew up in Falls County graduating in 1946 from Chilton High School as Valedictorian of her class. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in business from University of Mary-Hardin Baylor with additional study at Texas Christian University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Minnie was a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma, Future Business Leaders of America and Future Teachers of Amarillo. She was a member of Baptist Student Union, other campus activities and was elected as, “One Most Likely to Succeed in the Business World.”
Minnie was House Chairman of her dorm at Mary Hardin-Baylor. In her career, she was a legal secretary to criminal lawyers in Fort Worth, secretary to the vice president of J.E. Foster and Son, and on staff at First Baptist Church of Amarillo. She also was secretary to district agents for Texas A&M Extension Service and secretary at First Officers Student Battery in Fort Sill, Okla. In the past, Minnie had been involved with many Baptist organizations at the associate and state levels. She was well known for conducting Bible study conferences using her own extensive outlines of the entire Bible. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for more than 60 years.
Her dedication to God’s word gave her a generous and serving heart to all she knew. Minnie was in Sanctuary Choir and Heritage Singers at First Baptist Church serving as president of both choirs at a time. She was a soloist and lover of music giving programs to entertain clubs and civic meetings. Minnie was a marvelous Christian that loved her Lord and her precious family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carlos Murphy in December 2012.
Survivors include a son, Gary Lane and wife Deanie of Amarillo; a daughter, Aimee Murphy DeWitt and husband Danny of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mariah and Bryce Murphy, David DeWitt and wife Sally and Joshua DeWitt and fiancée Ashley; two stepgrandsons, Benjamin Smith and wife Jennifer and Daniel Smith and wife Brooke Anne; two great-granddaughters, Clover Murphy and Piper; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Sarah, Caroline, Ella and Zane Smith; and many loving relatives and friends.
The family suggests memorials be to Music Ministry of First Baptist Church 1208 S. Tyler St, Amarillo, TX 79101.
