Minnie Cook

She was born in Speedwell, Tenn., on Nov. 4, 1921, to Amelia and Joseph Gibson.

In 1939, she graduated from Dalhart High School before moving to Adrian, Texas, where she met and married Elmer W. Cook on June 21, 1941, making their home and raising their five children in and around Vega, Texas.

Minnie began Vega's first mini preschool in the back room of her home in 1965. She later erected the little log cabin next door.

Miss Minnie, as she was known to many of Vega's finest, was dedicated to teaching preschool children in and around Vega from 1965 to 1986 when she retired, moving to Clearfield to be near her daughter Barbara and family.

Throughout her life Minnie was an active member and attended church. She was a member of Vega United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She also was an Eastern Star member serving in Vega and Layton.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her sister, Maxine Gault of Amarillo; a brother, Joe Gibson Jr. of Amarillo; her children, Jerry Cook and wife Sandy of Eagle, Neb., Barbara Hunter and husband Wilbur of Clearfield, Cathy Gage of Brighton, Colo., Lessa Shiffer and husband Jim of Marydel, Md., and David Cook and wife Tina of Red Rock, Ariz.; eight granddaughters; six grandsons; nine great-granddaughters; 10 great-grandsons; and a great-great-grandson.

The family extends an invitation to all graduates of Miss Minnie's Mini-School to be honorary pallbearers.
