Mary “Ruth” Douglas Hawkins, 94 of Amarillo passed away September 20, 2014. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Faith Southwest United Methodist Church with the family as Celebrants. Inurnment will be held Friday, October 3, 2014 at Llano Cemetery East by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Mary “Ruth” Douglas Hawkins found her mansion in heaven was finally ready on September 20, 2014. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Mary Lula and John Dabney Douglas. Ruth married William “Bill” Hawkins on February 26, 1940. They moved from Louisville to Denver, Colorado in 1948 where they raised their three children. After retiring in 1974, they moved to Pampa, Hedley, Memphis and eventually Amarillo. Ruth was a selfless, devout Christian lady who was always ready and willing to nurture, befriend, and mentor all she encountered. She was loved and is already greatly missed. The family suggests everyone to come celebrate her life with them in your most colorful clothes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years and 10 months, Bill Hawkins; her mother; two brothers; many friends and beloved pets. She is survived by her children, Wanda Carlson, Judy Gifford and Wayne Hawkins and wife Susan; five granddaughters, three grandsons, four great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter. She left them all a legacy of love, music and faith. The family would like to give a special thanks to Jeannine and Jeannice and the Odyssey Hospice in-home providers. The family suggest memorials be sent as donations to the SPCA of Amarillo in lieu of flowers
