Visitation will be held from 7 pm to 8 pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 5400 Bell St. in Amarillo. A Celebration service will be at 10:00 am on Friday, November 30, 2018, at The Church at Quail Creek, Amarillo. Officiating the service will be his sons Dane and Dale Moreland.
Speck was born on October 5, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas, to the late Oliver Dewey Moreland and Lula (Ingram) Moreland. He spent his early years in Lamesa, Texas. Speck enlisted in the Army of the United States December 1945. He served 13 months in Germany and 2 months in France. He was honorably discharged in June 1947. He married the love of his life Johncie Pickett, on October 1, 1947, in Amarillo. Speck retired from the Western Stockyards in Amarillo after 39 years. He loved farming and raising cattle, calf roping, fishing, and he loved his family more than anything.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Johncie (Pickett) Moreland on August 18, 1998 shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Also preceded by his parents, and one brother Kenneth Moreland and one sister, Alleta Martin. Survivors include two sons, Dane Moreland and wife Mary, of Amarillo, and Dale Moreland and wife Lynn, of Amarillo. Six grandchildren Marvin Moreland III and wife Letitia, Melissa Veazey and husband Scott, Timothy Moreland and wife Cheryl, Misty Caldwell and husband Scott, Courtney Godwin and husband James, Landon Moreland and wife Jessie, all of Amarillo. Ten precious great grand children that he adored. He is also survived by two sisters Allura Jo Moreland-Logan of Amarillo and Allene Watson of Escalon, CA.
