Marie was born on March 10th, 1931 to Silas Alfred Evans and Elsie Hellen Bayliff Evans in Happy, TX. Marie spent the early years of her life living with an aunt due to her mother’s frail health after her birth and went by the name of Susie Schaffer. After her mother passed away, when Marie was 3, she continued to live with her aunt until she was 5 to 6 years old. Marie then went to live with her father and sisters and was called Elsie in honor of her mother.
Marie went to school in Happy, TX until she got married to JD Prosser on May 18, 1949 and moved to Amarillo. Together they started a business called “JD Prosser and Sons Cement Contractors” with Marie responsible for all the paperwork, payroll, and accounting.
JD and Marie were married for almost 48 years and had four children; John David, Ronald Wayne, Randy Lee, and Cindy Marie. Family came first and was above all else to Marie. Her other passions in life were arts and crafts, cooking, being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and going to church at North Amarillo Church of Christ.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband JD, her son Ronnie, her daughter Cindy, and four sisters; Evelyn Pearson, Myrtle Cheek, Florence Evans, and Loveta Lowery. She is survived by her son Randy (Cathy), her son John David, her granddaughter Michelle (Dale) Dedrick, her grandson Michael (Veronica) Prosser, and five grandsons; Jason McClanahan, Joe Joe McClanahan, Alex Dedrick, Zachary Dedrick, and Jake Prosser.
