LaVerne Winters

A Visitation will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 3pm to 5pm at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell Street, Amarillo, Texas 79109. The funeral service will be Monday, November 18, 2024 2pm at Arden Road Baptist, Church 6701 Arden Road, Amarillo, TX 79109.

LaVerne was born in Childress, TX. As a young girl, her family moved to various towns around the Panhandle until finally settling in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1959. She worked for an Amarillo ophthalmologist for 20 years before retiring. She met and married Raymond Custer in 1980. They were married until his death in 2013. She married Richard Winters in 2017. LaVerne loved her church, traveling, and cooking for others. When she was not working in her flower garden, she was working on her crossword puzzles or finding new recipes to try.

LaVerne is preceded in death by husband Raymond Custer 1980-2013; sister Lorene Rogers and husband Dub; sister Altha Ray and husband Clyde; and sister Jane Ann Jamison.

She is survived by husband Richard Winters; her daughter Anita Adair and husband Kerry; grandchildren Austin Adair, Alex Adair and wife Conner, and Kori Adair. She is also survived by; Sandra Thomas and family; Gay Smith and husband Billy; Gary Rogers and wife Jacque; Mike Custer and wife Grace; Tony Custer and wife Verna; Phil Custer and wife Danielle; Robert Winters and wife Ronda; Beverly Signor and husband Donald; and numerous and extended family members by marriage.
