John David Irizarry, 58, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. John was born November 24, 1963. A private memorial and celebration of his life will be held in 2022 by his family in Dallas, TX.
John was a devoted son, loving brother, blessed father, and caring grandfather. He made many friends in the community and was a well-respected pharmacist for most of his life. He was a humble and peaceful Christian who had great respect for God, scripture, and prayer. He also had a deep fondness for his departed mother and held the memories he made with her close to his heart all the days of his life. John had a deep sense of pride and admiration for all of his children and their accomplishments. He enjoyed doing magic tricks for his grandchildren and playing games with them at the park. His children and grandchildren loved and appreciated his jovial personality and his ability to have fun and find joy, no matter the location or company.
John enjoyed long morning walks at Medi Park followed by coffee and good conversations with those who he admired and loved. His favorite season was autumn; he greatly enjoyed watching the leaves change color and fall to the ground every year in the crisp Amarillo air. He was a talented poet and took every chance he could to put pen to paper. John maintained an endearing sense of nostalgia and enjoyed conversing with others about historical events and ideas. He had a lovely sense of humor that was appreciated by all who knew him, paired with an innate talent at making friends wherever he went. John especially enjoyed connecting with people and exemplified finding, focusing and appreciating common ground between himself and others. His memory will be cherished and he will be forever missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Zelma (Rich) Irizarry. Survivors include a sister, Diane (Irizarry) Sloan and her husband Pat Sloan; a brother, Raymond Irizarry and his wife Donna Irizarry; children, Laura Nicole Wylie and her daughters Sophia Mary Grace Wylie and Everly Sparrow Layne Wylie; Katherine Wylie White and her sons Benjamin Wylie White and Lucas Wylie White; Jonathan Michael Irizarry and his son Grayson Cole Irizarry; nieces and nephews, Lisa Miller, her husband Chad Miller and their sons Luke Miller and Levi Miller; Chris Irizarry, his wife Rebekah Irizarry and their children Emma Irizarry and Nathan Irizarry; Dawn Gray, her wife Ashley Gray and her child Deft Hubbard; Joy Hurse, her husband Gary Hurse and their children Jaxon Hurse, Cora Hurse, and Ruby Hurse.
He is also survived by many beloved friends and colleagues of whom he had great fondness and respect for throughout his life.
