Jack T. Williams

Jack was born November 20, 1930 in Aberdeen, Texas to Elmer Wilbur “E.W.” and Cleola Hollingsworth Williams. He was reared and educated in Wellington and Amarillo. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and proudly served his country in Korea during the war. Returning to the states, he was honorably discharged in 1953. Before entering the Army, Jack’s first marriage was to Carol Ford and they had one daughter, Pam. Jack went to work for Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in 1958. He was hired as the plumber/maintenance man/jack of all trades during his twenty years at the ranch. He was very proud of the Ranch and “his boys” that he taught maintenance to. In 1974 Jack married Shirley Hill in Amarillo and Jack gained another daughter, Debbie. After retiring from Boys Ranch, Jack and Shirley moved to Elk City, Oklahoma where Jack started a small business in the Oil Field Services. Returning to Texas, Jack was employed at the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo where he used his plumbing experience until his retirement. Jack was life members of both the VFW and the American Legion. While living in Elk City, Oklahoma he was the VFW Post Commander, District Commander and an All-American Team Commander. Jack had many VFW Chairmanship programs on the State level in Oklahoma. Jack also was a 5 year charter member of the Elk City Loyal Order of the Moose and continued his Moose Membership in Amarillo for a total of 32 years with this organization. Some of Jack’s favorite activities included fishing, gardening, playing dominoes, and watching sports. Jack taught by example how to treat his friends and loved ones. He unconditionally loved his wife, Shirley, his two daughters, and his 3 grandchildren with all of his heart. He treated everyone with respect and was known for his honesty, strength of character, and his smile for all. Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his life include his wife, Shirley Williams; daughters, Pam Hernandez and husband Luis and Debbie Collier; 3 grandchildren, Derek Collier, Brianna Hernandez and C.J. Hernandez; sister, Dorothy Veazey and husband Lloyd; nephew, Tracy Ball and wife, Teresa; great-nephew, Trey Ball and wife Amber, all of Amarillo. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Dennis Collier. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch,P.O.
