Ms. Parks was born April 11, 1915, in Bogota to John and Nettie Carroll Wilson. Orphaned by the age of five, she lived with various relatives before graduating from Amarillo High School. In 1932 she married Ray Edwin Parks. They divorced in 1946. A second marriage to a Mr. Seitz was short-lived.
Irene worked in Amarillo as a salesgirl, a dental assistant and a ticket agent for Braniff International Airways. Away from work, Irene loved to dress up and go dancing at The Nat or the Old Tascosa Club. An extensive collection of her avant-garde wardrobe can be seen at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon. Irene remained independent well into her 80’s before moving into assisted living at the Ware in 1998.
Ms. Parks was preceded in death by a son, Robert R. Parks, in 2005.
Survivors include a grandson, Charles R. Parks of Simi
Valley, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Gretchen G. Parks of Royal Oak, Mich.
